Babington Academy Stand Up and Take Over Day 2023
Today, Babington students Stand Up and Take Over!
Well done to Samantha White (Babington Academy Careers Lead), who organised the 2023 Stand Up and Take Over Day (SUTO) for students at Babington Academy. On SUTO, students become staff for the day and carry out the duties of the job role they have successfully secured. Lanyard included! Job roles cover all departments across the school; Premises, Library Services, SLT, IT, support roles, and more!
Previously, SUTO has only been targeted at Year 10's - this year, students from all year groups had the opportunity to get involved in applying for a role at the school! Competition on the job market has been high (and tight), with some faculties taking on two or more candidates.
SUTO at Babington Academy provides students with an internal work experience opportunity and encourages students to practice their PROUD DNA qualities as they 'Dare to Dream'.
We want to give our students as many opportunities above & beyond the classroom to grow character, minds and aspiration.
These opportunities offer our students a chance to experience the world of work; to develop essential transferrable skills; to build relationships with staff; to see behind the scenes and gain a greater understanding of how we operate.
It was lovely to walk around and share conversations with staff who were buzzing at the effort and capabilities of their student staff.
Samantha White, Careers Lead at Babington Academy
The enthusiasm of SUTO from our Babington staff is seen in how they promoted the various job opportunities available to their students, competing to be the most sought after role! This year (even above the role of Principal!), the most popular role was Library Assistant with 17 applicants!
The recruitment process reflected the stages of a real life scenario, preparing students for the world of work:
- Applications were RAG rated
- Professional conversations took place
- Short interviews
- Real-life recruitment tasks
- Candidates were asked to detail how they would approach hypothetical scenarios
Successful candidates received an offer letter, outlining their working hours, dress code, and what to expect.
