South Wigston High School Design 63m-Long-Mural
On Tuesday 7th March South Wigston High School students had the wonderful opportunity to take part in the first stage of a new mural design for the pedestrian railway bridge in South Wigston.
Network rail have commissioned artist Katherine Wright to paint a 63m long mural on the bridge. As part of her research and the design process, Katherine approached local schools to gather the ideas of students for the mural, giving them the opportunity to take ownership of the work.
Twenty students were selected from years 7-9 to spend part of the day researching and sketching their ideas that would be combined into the mural design by Katherine.
Katherine was really impressed by the way the students took on board what was required by them and managed the challenge of working on a large scale.
All the ideas are now being combined and painting will begin on the bridge on the 3rd June.
