Visitor Lanyards and Supervision on Site
To help keep our academies safe for all learners, staff and visitors, we operate a simple lanyard system across our schools. Visitors may be asked to wear a coloured lanyard during their time on site.
The colour indicates the level of supervision required.
This approach reflects national safeguarding guidance set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (2025) and Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023). It helps staff quickly identify who is authorised to be on site and what level of access they have.
Lanyards being used
Red Lanyard – Accompanied Visitor
Visitors wearing a red lanyard must be accompanied at all times by a member of staff.
This usually applies to first-time visitors, contractors, parents, carers and guardians or individuals who have not been fully checked through the academies' safeguarding processes.
These visitors must remain with a member of staff throughout their visit and should not move around the site independently.
Yellow Lanyard – Supervised Visitor
Visitors wearing a yellow lanyard may move around the site but must remain under appropriate supervision.
This may apply where some checks have been completed, or where a visitor is known to the school but does not have full clearance for unsupervised access.
Staff remain responsible for ensuring appropriate oversight during the visit.
Outlines for levels of supervision are below. If you are unsure please contact the office in each academy.
1) Supervised at all times
2) Work in close proximity
3) Contained behind the safeguarding line
4) 30 minute check ins in place by a member of staff
Contractors
Who will complete work at any of our academies must be subject to the appropriate level of DBS check (Basic / Standard, Enhanced)
Where a group of visitors / contractors are on site and have different levels of access, a member of staff from the academy / trust MUST be responsible for ensuring the appropriate oversight during the visit.
GREY LANYARD - AUTHORISED VISITOR
Visitors wearing a green lanyard have full authorised access to the site.
This typically applies to individuals who have completed the appropriate safeguarding checks, such as an enhanced DBS and identity verification.
Even with full access, all visitors are expected to follow academy safeguarding procedures and report any concerns immediately.
